The Career Photographer program

Career Photographer

The "Career Photographer" program is for low volume portrait and event photographers (not sports, nature, travel, medical, or forensics photography), for family, high school senior, newborn, children, headshots, business and personal events, Weddings, etc. You will learn the foundation of photography, intermediate photography, and advanced photography techniques with a large part of the program on the business side: Business planning, marketing, client relationship management, how to communicate with clients in person, on the phone, and text-based (text, email, website, etc.) -everything associated with staying in business for a career!

Landers Photography School is the only low-volume 'photography and business' specific program in the area and we accept only the finest applicants. We seek individuals who demonstrate competence, character, and passion. Those who aspire to make it happen against all odds and want to help others by actions that will uplift the entire photography community. This is not a quick program, there is simply too much to learn, it takes two years to complete this program.

Courses cover the foundations of photography, intermediate, and advanced concepts and students gain experience in a wide range of photographic specialties including portraiture, lifestyle, commercial, events, nature, multimedia, and photojournalism. In addition, students learn Lightroom and Photoshop skills, produce a professional portfolio, complete a business plan and have an introduction to design and marketing. Apply now to be considered for Fall 2020

About the Program:

This program is designed for beginners or advanced photographers who want to specialize in portrait and event photography. For example: low-volume/high profit: family, high school senior, newborn, children, headshots, business and personal events, weddings, etc. (This program is not designed for sports, nature, travel, landscape, stock, medical, or forensics photography). You will learn the foundation of photography, intermediate, and advanced photography techniques and a large part of the program is the business side: Business planning, marketing, client relationship management, how to communicate with clients in person, on the phone, and text-based (text, email, website, etc.) - everything associated with staying in business for a long time!

Classroom time commitment:

Two days a week for two-hours each, plus a weekly 30-minute private session (students schedule this once classes start).

There are multiple options for Fall 2020:

Mondays & Wednesdays
9:30 am - 11:30 am

Tuesdays & Thursdays
6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

If you would prefer an afternoon option
1:30 pm – 3:30 pm. please let us know, we may consider opening this option if there is enough interest

What if I cannot make it one day (or more)?

Easy make-ups! With both livestream and recorded options(at no additional cost)you won’t miss a thing!

How Much?

Since ‘price out of context’ doesn't show value, it will do no good for you to have the cost until I provide you with a description and comparison
- It would be like going to a grocery store and asking “how much is a bag of groceries?' -you have to know what’s in the bag first!

We found a way to optimize the program to increase both ‘photography content’ and ‘business content’ and lower the cost to be much more affordable than any other college-style program available, plus we add in ‘private coaching’ at no extra cost - no other program does that!
UTSA for my kids right now is over $5000 a semester, the cost of the entire four-year photography program at the art school on I-10 is over $90,000, plus student fees… You will be surprised to learn that our program is nearly 90% less than theirs at $11,880, plus one student fee per semester (Tuition can be broken up: monthly: $495 or by semester $1981 + student fees of $115 per semester -there are three semesters per year). I think you will like this, this program takes only 2 years to complete, and you will be much better prepared since this is a dedicated program taught by instructors with real-life experience: which means 100% relevant and practical information in photography and the business of photography. Part of the requirements of our program is that our students must begin their business while still enrolled in classes with us, often by the end of their first year - so we can help them through the toughest year in business: the first one! That way they are not just prepared, but already running a photography business when they graduate.

When I completed a photography program that at the time was considered to be the third best on the nation, a total of 33 of us graduated from the four-year program, after just 2 years 30 moved on to other professions, after 5 years, I was the only one left. I wasn’t the best in the group, in fact some were so good, it crossed my mind to quit. But the point of this is to say that with even the best programs out there, they simply do not prepare you for the reality of being in business for yourself. That is the basis for this unique program here at Landers Photography School.

LPS is accepting applications for enrollment in the Career Photographer program from January 10, 2020 – until we fill all 8 open positions for Fall 2020 admissions. Because it takes someone at the school to process, just like all college-type programs, we charge a non-refundable application fee: $495 -NOTE: if we decide to decline to offer you admission, we will return $400 to you and only keep $95. This application fee also GUARANTEES a spot for Fall 2020. Once your online application is submitted, a confirmation email notification will be sent to your email, so you are confident that we are focused on you! We make our decisions quickly; usually within 2 business days
.
Landers Photography School makes admission decisions based on self-reported information from the application. It is important that information on the application is entered accurately and completely. Admission decisions may be withdrawn for students who misreport information or who have not met terms of the admission offer. In this instance the application fee will not be returned.

Steps for enrollment:

1. Application for admission

The process begins with an online application for admission where you fill out information about yourself, so we know that you are interested in enrolling into the program and so that we know about you and your goals.

*** Submit additional information only when requested ***

Once your application is reviewed, you will receive an email with further instructions. Unlike other programs, we do not normally need additional academic information, but if we need something, we will let you know.

Each applicant must schedule an Interview with Jim Landers. Don't worry, this is not a formal interview. Jim will just want to make sure that you understand what we do and make sure that you are right for it. You will enjoy this interview!

Pay the application fee
As mentioned already, a non-refundable $495 application fee must be submitted with the application. If you do not see this when you apply, don’t worry, please continue submitting the application; we will send an invoice after we have received it. NOTE: if we decide to decline to offer you admission, we will return $400 to you and only keep $95

2. We read and evaluate your responses

This takes time! Please be patient; do not call, email, or otherwise bug us to get your response letter. We are working on it and have lots of things to consider! It’s not just reading your application and responding, we must evaluate it, schedule your interview (informal, not difficult, more informative) and compare it to the pool of applicants - don’t worry, if you fit the description of what photography types we are teaching, you stand a good chance of getting in!

3. We send you a response letter:

The response letter is the document we send to you that formally informs you of the final decision of our admissions committee about your application.
